Skate it up 2013 with Brian Sumner and Josh Harmony
What: SKATE IT UP 2013
It’s 2013 and I can’t believe we’re doing this for our 6th year or so. I think back to the start of it all….as a skater pushes through the parking lot of our church pastor Sal sees him and thinks “we need to give skaters a place too” so he had a small skatepark built in the parking lot by the Truth Student building. Mike Smith was the youth pastor and Frank Dana was an intern and I was just some guy that wanted to serve. Thanks Sal for including skaters, thanks Frank for getting it started and giving skate it up a name , thanks Mike for asking me to help out, I never thought it would lead to this. This year we will have a true man of God, pro skater and now my friend Brian Sumner back to join us again. He has encouraged me through his testimony and through his social media presence, through the years. We are also able to get one of Brian’s local friend’s Josh Harmony to join us. I’m stoked about this year’s event, we’ve got 4 trips to Woodward!! (A big shout out to Woodward for their support and the best action sports camps in the world) a bunch of food and prizes for all who come. Only God knows what next year will bring but this year I’d like the thank our sponsors, Southside, Reliance/Siren skateboards, Skate808 philosophers wheels, Middleman skateboards, Vans, Pro Design pads and Ruben aka “Ya Bro Roo” and Aaron for the rhymes and beats.
As a big bonus this year Brian and Josh will join our youth on Sunday morning at the Truth Student services. Brian will speak and Josh will sing. We hope you can come skate Saturday and come to worship and learn with us Sunday at 8:15 and 9:30.

Donations from JSAW and our supporters we THANK YOU!! Skate It Up 2012!
Recently we received 1 of three grants from JSAW and we would like to give a big shout of thanks to JSAW. We are good standing chapter of Christian Skaters and we are thankful for their support also. Both of these organizations are doing great things through out the world. Here is what JSAW had to say about their grant.
“Over the summer our team is sought out to perform demos, speak, host skate camps and contests. At these events the JSAW team shared the love and truth of Jesus Christ with 1900 students. Our two chapters here at home, Christian Skaters Minneapolis and Wakeboard Church, have also continued to make a transformative difference every week. JSAW Worldwide has given $1000 in grants to support action sports ministries like SFC Summit, TruthRiders, & Dunn County SnowPark, to further their efforts in sharing the love and truth of Jesus Christ with riders in their local communities. This is not to get your applause or a pat on the back, but so that you know we are working hard to do what God has called us to do.”
This grant comes at a special time for us as we get ready for our annual outreach/contest skate it up. This year it’s been tough to get the same funds as we have before so we are very grateful for this grant and all our other supporters. If you would like to donate to the TruthRiders you can contact me or donate online at http://themetonline.org/giving-other-ways-to-give-jones-road Make sure you note it’s for the skate ministry. Our Church is a certified 501 C3 and your donations are tax deductible.
This years event will be very much the same but a little different. The skating will be rad I’m sure and it will again be at Southside Houston’s most recognized and only real indoor skate park. Thanks to Big O for letting us do it again Oct 6th 2012. Van’s rep Dan Augustine will be there along with Reliance Pro Elijah Moore to Judge. We will be cooking up some free food and as tradition has it the contest will be free. This year we won’t have trips to Woodward to pass out like we have in the past but that’s ok there is always next year and who needs Woodward anyway when we have the whole city of Houston and beyond to skate. God bless y’all I hope to see y’all at Southside Oct 6th. Poster coming soon!!!
John 8:31-32 Jesus said….if you hold to my teachings you are really my disciples, then you will know the truth and the truth will set you free!
